TELL CITY – On Tuesday, the Marksmen girls basketball team defeated Springs Valley, 36-35
Kammie-Jo Hayes was the leading scorer for Tell City with 15 points and 6 rebounds in the narrow Marksmen victory.
The score was all knotted up at 33-33 with 2:20 left after Hayes swished both free throws at the stripe.
The Marksmen scored again after getting the stop and Springs Valley tied the game back up with a shot made in the paint. Chloe Carman had drawn a shooting foul with .4 seconds left and was sent to the line.
Carman drilled the free throw to put the game on ice as the Marksmen secured the victory.
“I don’t think we were good offensively tonight, but our defense was on point. That is a team that is ranked 13th in the state in 1A and 14-6 in the year. For our girls to battle like that, get down late and continue to battle, it speaks volumes. This is the momentum we needed headed into sectionals,” said Tell City’s coach John Hayes.
On Tuesday, the Marksmen will compete in the sectional pairing against South Spencer at 7 p.m. (Perry County time).
